Free things to do at Ramsgate Festival of Sound 2026

Ramsgate Festival of Sound runs from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 September 2026 at venues around the town. This guide is for families, music fans and visitors who want to build a day around the parts of the festival that are confirmed as free.

The wider programme includes concerts, films and performances that need separate tickets. Check the official festival programme before setting off because times, availability and venue information can change.

Friday to Sunday: follow the Sonic Trail

The Sonic Trail is open from noon to 4pm on Friday 11, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. Entry is free, with a free registration option on the organiser's booking page.

The trail places commissioned sound works in spaces across Ramsgate. Stops include Ramsgate Station, the Italianate Glasshouse, Vale Square, Arts in Ramsgate, St George's and a room at 11 Spencer Square. You can visit a few installations or set aside an afternoon for the full route.

The current Sonic Trail page lists Friday to Sunday. A card on the main festival programme also displays Thursday 10 September as a start date, so check the dedicated event page again before travelling.

Access differs at each stop. Ramsgate Station has step-free access and an induction loop. The installation at 11 Spencer Square is on the fourth floor and admits six people at a time. The organiser has venue-by-venue details on the Sonic Trail page.

Saturday morning with young children

Thanet Baby Sensory runs at the Winterstoke Gardens sun shelter from 10am to 10.30am on Saturday 12 September. Toddler Sense follows from 10.30am to 11am. The sessions are free, aimed at children under four and use a free registration page.

Winterstoke Gardens is on Victoria Parade, close to the Granville Theatre. The festival's wider family programme continues in the gardens during the day, but check the main programme for the latest running order and any booking requirements.

Saturday afternoon: Busk Until Dusk

Busk Until Dusk runs from noon to 6pm on Saturday 12 September. More than 20 bands and solo performers are due to play in pubs and independent venues around Ramsgate. Entry is free, and the official event page lists the participating venues.

The route includes the Montefiore Arms, Bedford Inn, Horse and Groom, Fermentorium, Queens Head, Red Lion, Queen Charlotte, Honeysuckle Inn, Ramsgate Arts Club, Penelope, East Kent Arms, The Pub and Blackbird. There is no need to cover every stop. Pick a small area and leave time to move between sets.

Access is not consistent across the route. Some pubs have an accessible entrance but no accessible toilet, while Ramsgate Arts Club does not have step-free access. Check the venue notes on the official event page before choosing your stops.

A simple free Saturday plan

Start at Winterstoke Gardens for the baby and toddler sessions if they suit your group. After noon, choose a few Sonic Trail installations and finish with two or three Busk Until Dusk venues nearby.

East Cliff Bandstand also appears in Saturday's festival programme, with Teenage Kicks scheduled from noon. It is the location shown in the photograph above. Check the programme for current entry and booking details before adding it to your route.

The station, East Cliff and town centre are spread out, so allow time between them. Comfortable shoes will help, and outdoor parts of the programme may change in poor weather.

Sunday's programme includes the Big Gospel Sing at St George's Church, film events at Ramsgate Community Cinema and the closing performance at the Granville Theatre. These sit outside the confirmed-free plan above, so use the festival website for current ticket prices and availability.
